2009 "Four Seasons"

Rankine moved to Eureka Springs in 1996 from Key West, Florida to continue his work in print-making and found-object assemblage. Rankine was a co-founder of the Lovely County Citizen where he worked as photo-journalist and writer for seven years before retiring to pursue fine-art photography full time. In 2004 he exhibited a series of portraits of local artists to wide acclaim. Rankine was delighted to be part of the first Artery installation with his panel "Big Banana". He received Best in Show honors at the 2007 Eureka Springs Fall Art Show. In November 2008, he debuted "A Community at Peace," a critically acclaimed multi-media installation of black and white portraits taken of people in the community of Eureka Springs while they visualized peace. Rankine’s recent work was shown at the Pentimento Gallery, in Toronto last June. A new portrait series of kids who belong to the summer and after school programs of the Eureka Springs Carnegie Library will be on display at the library. Dates for the show have yet to be determined. Panel information While I still like and stand by my original Artery concept, my panel, due to a technical glitch, drastically changed. Artist’s – know your glues and adhesives. My simple minimalist concept using paint square samples changed when I started madly ripping off some of the paint squares in a fit of seventh hour frustration due to many of the squares coming un-glued– edges lifting and bubbling up. The final result is a mixed media panel that incorporates paint square samples (some partially ripped) and acrylic paint. I am personally very please with our art community who did not let the now former alderman, Rob Wagner and Alderman Joyce Zeller hi-jack and tear down our beautiful wall.
