Won a Merit Award in the Misc. Category of the 5th annual Pcom Creative Awards Show, an international design competition.

ICON Statement:

Mary isn't just an icon; she is perhaps the greatest superstar in art
through the centuries, and her image has its roots in the goddess Isis
from ancient Egypt. The "Maria Lactans" motif, in which Mary
breast-feeds baby Jesus, was very popular in the late Middle Ages and
is remarkably similar to the imagery if Isis breast-feeding baby Horus
(c.2700BCE-400AD). In both stories, the son is killed and ultimately
resurrected.

As for "Does this halo make my face look fat?"-- well, as not only the
Divine Mother but as the superstar/supermodel of the art world
throughout the centuries-- she has to think about these things!

"The paper is wrong about what my painting depicts though, and TOTALLY missed the point. It is NOT the Virgin Mary-- she is the Divine Mother, a meld of different traditions-- Virgin Mary and Isis. If people are offended by a beautiful Madonna del Latte, they must also be offended by hundreds of years of the Great Masters painting Madonna del Lattes displayed in churches and museums." - Michelle
