Episcopal Reverend praises the Artery in Eureka Springs

Hello, Your art project was featured on aol.com news this morning and I was delighted to see that such is in public view in Eureka Springs. Having grown up in Northwest Arkansas, it always angered me to see the monstrous "Christ of the Ozarks", a bad imitation of the "Christ of the Andes; not to mention the "Passion Play", another bad imitation of the one done in Oberamagau, Germany. Clearly, Eureka Springs cries out for the kind of iconography you are providing. Bravo! The aol piece, of course, mad a big deal about the breast feeding earth mother/divine mother., which I thought was wonderful, like so many others I've seen in this genre. In my view, though, it lost some of its power with the caption, "Does this halo make my face look fat? by just giving the Fundamentalists something to scream "irreverence" about. But on the other hand, maybe that is not such a bad thing either. Thank you for your courage and sense of humor. The Rev. Harold Clinehens (Episcopal) Lodi, California |
